The former Governor died on Sunday, while the collation
of the results of the Kogi State governorship election held last Saturday,
where he was the candidate of the APC, was still ongoing and he was coasting
home to victory before the exercise was declared inconclusive.
Abatemi-Usman, in a statement signed by his Special
Assistant on Media and Publicity, Michael Jegede, said the late Audu
contributed in no small measure to the growth and sustenance of democracy in
Nigeria, noting that the vacuum left by his death will be difficult to fill.
“The news of the death of Alhaji Abubakar Audu came to us
as a great shock. We have, indeed, lost a great man who in his own way made
great significant contributions to the development of Kogi State and
advancement of democracy in Nigeria. He would not only be missed by his family
members, but also by the entire members of our great party, Kogi people and
Nigerians in general,” the ex-lawmaker said.
He prayed God to grant the deceased a peaceful repose and
the family the fortitude to bear the irreparable loss.
