Based on
a perceived delay in the clean up of crude oil spill impacted on sites in
Ogoniland, the Movement for the Survival of Ogoni People, MOSOP, has issued a
30-day ultimatum to the Federal Government led by President Muhammadu Buhari to
commence the implementation of the United Nations Environmental Programme
Report on Ogoni, Rivers State.
This was disclosed during the 23rd anniversary of Ogoni
people, at Birabi Memorial Grammar School, Bori, the ancestral headquarters of
Ogoni people.
The
present stance of Ogoni people was disclosed by these President of MOSOP, Mr.
Legborsi Pyagbara, who said that the people of Ogoni were getting frustrated by
the delay in the implementation of the UNEP report on Ogoni environment and
would be compelled to pour into the streets in peaceful protests.
Pyagbara
stated that the delay in the implementation was an act of genocide, and as
result the Ogoni people have resolved to go on with protests in the state if
the Federal Government continues pussyfooting on the clean up.

MOSOP President said threatened that after 30
days the people would be mobilized to the streets on peaceful protest until the
report is dusted for implementation.
Pyagbara also charged the Rivers State
Government to commence the dualization of Saakpenwa-Kono Road, which has been
stressing that it has been in a poor state and is of immense economic
importance to the Ogoni people.
