Two of the robbers were shot dead, while one of the
fleeing robbery suspects, 28-year-old Emeka Eze, was arrested.
A press statement issued by the Command’s Police Public Relations Officer, Ahmad Muhammad, said that on Wednesday, 13 January at about 3:30 pm, a team of policemen acting on a tip off stormed the robbery scene at a petrol station.
The armed
robbers who saw the police approaching them fled the scene but were chased and
engaged in a gun fight by the anti-robbery squad.
“As the
police gave them hot chase, a gun duel ensued and in the process two of the
armed robbers were fatally wounded while others escaped with gunshot wounds
after they were over-powered by the overwhelming fire power of the police.
“One
fleeing armed robbers, namely Emeka Eze, 28, was later arrested following
immediate combing of bush around the scene.”
The
police anti-robbery squad recovered from them one AK 47 rifle, one magazine and
20 rounds of 7.62 live ammunition.
